Privacy, whether it is in your home or at the office, has a major impact on the quality of your living environment. More and more houses feature large windows, allowing outsiders easy views of the interior. It can be annoying, and can infringe on your privacy. There are several conceivable solutions to these unwanted gazes: curtains or pleated blinds can help. However, such products require a hefty outlay and may need to be made to measure in a factory, involving long delivery times and high production costs. Privacy window film is a cheaper answer to privacy issues in your home or at the office. The properties of privacy glass film are specifically designed to prevent people outside looking inside. Privacy foil can be applied to all kinds of plate glass, including Low E glass. A second advantage is that you can cover asymmetrical windows with privacy window film without any hassle, because the film is easy to handle and to cut to size. Privacy glass film obstructs the view from outside looking inside, but does not shut out light from outside as privacy control film lets daylight in. That means that the room will not be any darker once the windows are covered with privacy window film.

Self-adhesive and static privacy glass film

Privacy glass film has a wide range of uses. Privacy control film is suitable for any room where you want to stop people looking in or looking out, which is why privacy foil is often used for bathrooms, bedrooms and office spaces. Privacy window film ‘s unobtrusive appearance means that it will match the furnishings of any room. In fact, in the field of architecture, privacy glass film is used to emulate the luxurious look of sandblast glass and white opaque glass. Most types of film are self-adhesive, but we also sell static privacy foil. This static variety adheres to the glass by means of static adhesion, so no glue residue is left on the glass when you want to remove the privacy window film again. This variety of film is popular in rented homes, because landlords are usually not very happy if self-adhesive privacy foil is applied to the glass. We do not recommend using static privacy control film in bathrooms or other damp spaces in which you might want to use privacy control film. In such situations, it is better to use self-adhesive privacy glass film. Both the static and the self-adhesive varieties of film are applied to the glass in the same way and the instructions that come with the purchase are the same for both kinds of film. Static foil can be reused: you can peel the privacy foil from the window and re-apply it later.

There are four kinds of privacy foil available

Depending on what you want, you will always find a kind of privacy window film that suits your needs. If you want to be able to look outside, but want to keep out unwanted gazes without losing any daylight, it is best to go for sandblast or white opaque window film. These two kinds are perfectly suited to create privacy without much effort and without any loss of light. Sandblast film produces the same effect as actual sandblasted glass but is much more affordable. The same applies to white opaque window film; white opaque window film creates a matt-white effect on the glass but there is no difference in inward visibility between these two kinds of film. However, if you still want outward visibility but you also want to stop unwanted gazes outside looking in, reflective privacy glass film is the preferred option. Mirror window film will reflect on the outside and is slightly tinted when seen from the inside. Mirror film works because the interior of a room is darker than the exterior, creating a mirror effect. This kind of privacy control film is frequently used in rooms in which you want privacy but still want to look out. If the interior is lighter than the exterior, the mirror effect will disappear and people will be able to see inside. Mirror window film has a two-fold effect: this window film, as well as blocking the view from outside, will protect the room from the sun’s heat, as its reflective properties also have a sun-control effect.

Privacy control film is suitable for all types of plate glass

Privacy glass film (white opaque and sandblast varieties) can be applied to all types of glass, as long as it is flat. By plate glass, we mean: single glazing, double glazing, Low E glass (all grades of Low E glass including triple glazing). As privacy window film does not retain heat, privacy foil can also be adhered to the inside of Low E glass. Privacy glass film does not have a sun-control effect, so it does not counteract the coating on Low E glass. In other words, there is no risk of an expansion crack when you use privacy foil on your Low E glass window. Please note: this does not apply to reflective privacy foil. That kind of film should only be used on the outside of Low E glass. Privacy control film is suitable for use in damp spaces, as moisture will not damage privacy control film. We recommend using self-adhesive film in damp spaces, as the static variety can lose its static adhesion in moist rooms. You can use sandblast privacy foil either on the inside or the outside of your window because this kind of privacy control film is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use; the latter is a practical option if the window is difficult to reach from the inside.

Privacy window film can be ordered cut-to-size

Thanks to our unique made-to-measure module, you can order your privacy foil cut-to-size, right down to the last millimetre. Enter the measurements of your window into our made-to-measure module. It is best to measure your window from the edge of the rubber or sealant on one side to edge of the rubber or sealant on the other, so the privacy window film will cover the surface exactly between those edges, producing the best results. You do not need to take any margins into account. We will deliver the foil in precisely the right size. Once your privacy glass film has been delivered, you can immediately get to work on applying the film. Your order always contains clear instructions on how to apply it. The application instructions explain, step by step, how to adhere the privacy foil to the glass. Alternatively, if you do not want to order your privacy control film cut-to-size, you can order the film in one of a series of standard sizes. You will find that option under the tab ‘standard size’ on the product page. Simply select the size that is the closest match in size to your window. Another option is to buy a whole roll of film; it is a good idea if you want to apply the film to several windows. We always recommend adding a felt-edged squeegee to your order to make it easier to apply the film.
