Product description

Mirror window film stops people looking in but you still have outward visibility

One way mirror film is used in rooms where privacy is preferrable. Mirror window film is reflective on the outside and is slightly tinted when viewed from the inside. You can still look outside but people outside cannot see in any more. Its mirror effect is achieved because outside is lighter than inside. If the interior is lighter than the exterior – at night, for example – you lose the mirror effect. Mirror window film is popular in homes and offices where there is a need to keep out unwanted gazes. This type of privacy control film is often chosen in such situations because it does not obstruct outward visibility. One way mirror film also keeps out the heat; this film has a sun-control effect because this film, PP70, reflects 75% of all heat; in other words, PP70 film is a multipurpose window film. PP70 film is a self-adhesive mirror window tint, i.e. a glue layer adheres the film to the pane. Mirror window film will give your home or office a luxurious look.

How one way mirror film works

Mirror window film works by using the contrast between dark and light: the film is reflective when the room inside is darker than its exterior surroundings. One way mirror film contains tiny pieces of metal which reflect any light shining on the glass, creating a mirror effect on the outside of the window. The film filters and reduces the incoming light, so your screen vision when watching television and working on a laptop, etc. improves drastically. In fact, this kind of film will reduce sun glare by 80%. When the contrast between light and dark decreases in the evening, you lose the mirror effect. If you want privacy control at night too, a better choice would be white opaque window film or sandblast film. Both these kinds of film do not need the contrast between dark and light to create privacy. Nonetheless, the difference between mirror film and white opaque window film or sandblast film is that the two latter kinds obstruct the outward visibility [which mirror film does not]. There are three varieties of mirror window film available: PP80 film (static, to be applied to the inside of the glass), PP70 film (self-adhesive, to be applied to the inside of the glass) and PP75 film (self-adhesive, to be applied to the outside of the glass). That last kind (PP75) is suitable for using on things like the outside of Low E glass.

How to apply window film

Mirror window film is easy to apply yourself with the aid of our special tools. A felt-edged squeegee is an essential piece of equipment which will help you apply your window film absolutely perfectly. You need to apply PP70 one way mirror film to the inside of the glass. PP70 film can be applied to all types of single and double glazing – but not Low E glass. PP70 self-adhesive mirror window tint always comes with clear application instructions which explain, in a step-by-step plan, how to apply the film.

Please note: If you have Low E glass (all grades of Low E glass including triple glazing), you should never apply this kind of film, PP70, to the inside of your window. Low E glass has a metal coating which does not combine well with mirror window film. In fact, it can often cause an expansion crack in the pane. If you have Low E glass, you must always apply reflective film to the outside of the window to avoid the risk of an expansion crack. Click here for our outdoor/exterior quality variety (PP75).

The mirror effects can be impaired by an overhanging balcony or a large tree close to the window, etc. as such objects can cast shadows that make the ‘outside light’ darker and consequently the interior could easily be lighter than the outer surroundings.
